Its been about a month since the last update, and about as long since we have thrown a bait. The last month of June was viciously hot. Much more than I typically care for. Amongst work and putting our house on the market, I was able to make an awesome addition to the Gilman arsenal. Humminbirds 798c fish finder! For those of you who are familiar with this technological marvel can stop here. The rest of you will be amazed to know that this thing can do it all and then some! So whats so amazing about a fish finder?

Aside from GPS navigation in conjunction with standard sonar, the 798c has side imaging! What is that? Well that is basically what I call x-ray vision! The beams shoot out from both sides of the boat and make a 180 degree half circle of sonar under the boat. What is displayed on the screen is EVERYTHING within that beam! It literally makes a picture of everything under the water. Just as if you drained the river and could see the bottom. With traditional sonar you could only shoot directly under the boat. And in 2D format you had to take a guess at what you thought was under the boat. But with side imaging you can mark things a 100ft away from the boat with a waypoint. And then use GPS to locate that structures exact spot! I simply cant make a short review on all this can do. I will have a video up on it soon to show it off. I will upload a picture below of a snapshot I took (with the fish finder) of a familiar river hole. I mounted it on the boat this past weekend and took it for a test drive.

My next official fishing trip will be a multiple "dayer" as I will be on vacation. And plan on seeing what the new system will reveal in terms of new "cat holes." I will have video and updates if anything exciting happens.

"In spite of having a face only a mother could love, catfish are one of America's most sought after species. The challenge of catching a 35-pound net-wrecker and the thrill of such a battle is a monumental angling experience."
